Private Office or Coworking: What will work for me?

Here at Workspace, we offer both coworking and private office options. But how do you know which option is best suited for your business? There are a multitude of factors to consider when it comes to deciding the best kind of space for you; we’ve outlined a few of the questions you should ask yourself before choosing a private office or coworking space.

What is your client base?

One of the first questions you should ask yourself is about your clientele. Depending on your client base, you may need a personal office for privacy and confidentiality reasons. Do you often take calls during the work day that involve sensitive information? Or is your desk covered in files and confidential paperwork? If so, a private office might be the better option for your business. Furthermore, meeting space matters; if you need a dedicated space to have on hand 24/7 to meet with clients, your own office is key.

On the other hand, if you are a freelancer or entrepreneur, privacy may not be as critical for you. If meetings aren’t a part of your daily schedule, there is no need for a private space. Coworking memberships often come with conference room options, meaning you can reserve space only when you need it.

How much space do you require?

Space is another important factor when it comes to deciding between a private office or coworking. Do you need a file cabinet to keep your paperwork? Or do you like to leave work out on your desk from one day to the next to keep projects going? If so, a private office gives you the freedom to do so. In a coworking space, you don’t have the same storage options as a private office, if any. Plus, if you work with specific tools during the day, having to haul those to and from work each day is less than ideal.

But, if you’re a digital nomad and all you need is on your laptop or devices, coworking is an awesome option for you! Once you’ve eliminated the need for physical storage, you’re free to roam from one space to another.

What does your team look like?

How many team members are a part of your business? If you have more than three, it might be best to look into private office options. Coworking spaces work great for individuals and small teams, but larger teams often require their own spaces to best do their job. At Workspace, our furnished offices give you all the benefits of a secure private office, plus allow you to enjoy the benefits of a coworking environment. Our offices offer flexible sizing and accommodations option, meaning we’ll find the perfect space for your team. Interested? Check them out!

What level of freedom are you looking for?

One awesome perk of coworking is the freedom that comes with it. Many coworking spaces have numerous different work stations, such as cubicles, shared work tables, or even standing desks. A change of scenery each day can boost productivity and prevent creative blocks, which is especially great for freelancers and creatives. What’s more, many coworking memberships give you the option to work in multiple different spaces. For example, Workbar offers a “passport” membership, meaning you can work at any Workbar location, whenever you want!

What are your work habits like?

Deciding between a coworking space or a private option can be tricky, especially for individual professionals. Taking a look at your work habits can help guide you in the right direction. Do you like to listen to music without headphones? Have a gourmet lunch every day at your desk? Coworking requires some serious workplace etiquette; if you like to let loose every once an a while (ie: have a dance party every afternoon) chances are, a private office would be the best place to do so.
